You may have seen the picture of JoeGRUNT using the 60R Safety Razor along with a men-u lather brush, and men-u products.  I now have these wonderful safety razors in stock.  They are made of brass and are chromed.  For a man of color, or a man with curly beard, the single blade is the way to shave.  Plus it is economical.  The 60R takes standard razor blades that are easy to find, and inexpensive.  Use a fresh blade for every shave, along with a quality product, and you will never have to deal with razor rash.

My 60R comes with a 5Blade count box of Razor Blades.

men-u Products are TSA Approved, and the awards just keep on coming.

I bought this unique "GripA" hair grip at last August Bronner Bros. Hair Show.  I was very impressed with it because:

  • It holds more hair than a clip does. Excellent for holding hair away from face during facials.
  • It's lightweight, flexible, and washable.  Almost indestructible.  Takes up no room in your kit.
  • Can be used on wet or dry hair.
  • Can be used as a tool in the creation of up dos.
  • Creates perfect slice for weaving a foil.
  • Can hold large sections a part, excellent for braiding.

They are available in a multitude of colors, but I had mine package in red, white, and blue  (Like a barber pole), and comes 3 to a package.

I have these wonderful GripA's for:
1 - package $5.69
2 - packages $11.00
3 - packages $16.00

3 count pkg., red, white, & blue

The PRO Beauty Show is coming to Macon, GA., in October.  Meet Tabatha!  Very exciting.  Check it out.

We just returned from our Bronner Bros. Hair Show Trip.  It was a learning, networking experience that we truly enjoyed.  We arrived at the hotel around 2:30PM on Friday, and got settled in.  We were spread out in different hotels but used the hotel shuttles to get us to the airport.  Once we got to the airport we were able to use MARTA to get us to the venue.

We went to the venue in the late afternoon and ate at the CNN Building.  We then went to the Georgia World Congress Center and watched the venue being set up.  We were able to get some of the vendors to give the students some early bird specials on shears and such.  We also were able to spend a few minutes networking with our local Bronner Bros. Representatives, Todd Alford and Charles King, before going to the GLENN for our networking opportunity.

We then went to the GLENN and networked with Rodrick Samuels from ANDIS and Cheryl Rosenblum and Lewis Clemons III from The Hair Simulation Company.  Lewis offered great advice from a barbershop owner's perspective.

On Saturday, we visited all the booths and Tourain Davis and Cleveland Alford were models at the Major League Barber's Booth, and the Xotics Booth.

On Sunday, the students attended classes and I had time to network with my barber family.  Then on Sunday night we gathered at Justin's for the Barber's Round Table Dinner.  I was honored to be a guest speaker.  It was very exciting for my students to be able to network with the people that they connect with on facebook.  The concentrated creative energy and positive intelligence confirmed to me, that everyone in that room was not "on" the cutting edge... they WERE the cutting edge of our industry.

Some of my students have made plans to join me for the Bronner Bros. Mid-Winter Hair Show in Atlanta, Feb. 18-21.

I am very proud of the way my students have come together and planned out their budget and their trip.  The plan is not complete, but I am sharing what they have come up with, so far.

Budget Tip #1.  Buy your tickets early.  Get the best price.  Make the commitment to attend and knock off each expense prior to your trip.  It makes budgeting easy.

Budget Tip #2.  Priceline the rooms to meet your needs.  We cannot, as students, afford the $159/night rooms in downtown Atlanta.  We also cannot afford the $26-30/night parking at these hotels.  Parking at the Georgia World Congress Center is $10/day, and that adds up, too.  Not to mention the traffic!  Our solution was to find a business class hotel on Priceline that provides shuttle services to the airport.  The hotel also needed to be on the South Side, as we are coming from Columbus, and this makes our trip shorter, and almost traffic free.  We were fortunate enough to find $59/night rooms at the Wyndam Garden Airport South.  Indoor/Outdoor pool, gym, and airport shuttle service.

Tip #3.  Take advantage of mass transit.  Once we are at the airport, we can go to baggage claim and catch the MARTA train to the CNN building.  The train will get us from the airport to the 5 points station, downtown in 17 minutes for $2.  Wow!  We change from the Gold or Red line to the Green line at 5 points and the first stop on the Green line is the CNN/GWCC stop.  How cool is that?  The train runs at 15-20 minute intervals from 4:45AM to 1AM daily.  We can buy passes at any Marta Station.  Some may want to drive to a station and park for free and take the train to the GWCC and back.

Tip #4.  Be prepared to network.  We are arriving early.  We will come up on Friday afternoon and begin our pre-show networking at 8PM Friday evening, Feb. 17th with Rodrick Samuels and friends at the GLENN Hotel, for drinks and starters.

We will go to the airport via hotel shuttle and then catch the Marta to the CNN/GWCC stop and walk one block to the GLENN.   We won't even need a designated driver.  As long as we get back in time to catch the last shuttle back to our rooms (Cinderella Syndrome), we've got it made.

We have not made our Saturday -  Saturday night plans yet, but so far it looks like smooth sailing.  We've pre-paid for our Bronner Tickets, our Priceline Rooms, and our Barber Round Table seats.  That took care of our big ticket items.  So, we pretty much only need our food money (Sammys from home and McDonalds is not out of the question), gas money, Marta money, and spending money.

On Sunday night, Feb. 19th, we will attend Curtis Smith's Barber's Round Table Dinner at Justin's.  I am honored to be a guest speaker.  My students have put their money together and bought a VIP table that we hope to combine with Cheryl Rosenblum's Hair Simulation Table.  We will end up driving to that, as it is from 10PM - 2AM.  But being a Sunday night... the traffic should be slim, and that should be the only parking we will have to pay.  Hopefully, one of my students will drive a big SUV and we will all cram into that one vehicle.

We are going to have a great time networking, learning, and sharing an exciting experience.  See you at THE SHOW!

The Hair Art NETWORK has been selling cowhide on Styrofoam heads and stencils to help barbers perfect the art of cutting designs in haircuts.  The concept is amazing and the thought of using cowhide as a teaching tool to help my students understand fading and learning clipper techniques is such a great idea.  The cost, however, is really too high for a school.  But I got lucky.  I have a student that is from a barbering family.  His father just bought 3 cowhides and had his chair re-done.  Thank you Don Swann, owner of Barber Shack, in Lanett, AL., for the scraps.  Your shop looks great!  Your chairs look fabulous.

I was able to get the scraps (Thanks again, Barber Shack!)  and I sent a runner to Sally's tonight and bought some Styrofoam Heads and we used small scraps to practice our fading techniques.

Check us out!

Amazing!

I posted a video of a Hairdressing & Shaving Saloon in Dublin, Ireland.  This is just one example of Barbers participating in MOVEMBER.  What is that?  I will let the video do the explaining.  It's global.  It's important.  It's part of the LiveStrong Foundation.  If you are not participating, then please consider ... next November.

Awesome.

In my opinion, the February Show is the best show.  I've always heard that the August Show is bigger, but I like the weather better in February.  The networking is good at either time of the year.  I seem to enjoy February more.  Book early to get the best pricing on tickets.  See you at THE SHOW!

Here's a video from the Bronner site of last August's Highlights.  Enjoy!
